Throughout the NFL season (playoffs included), I will be making my weekly NFL predictions. For right now I will just pick the Thursday night game between the Denver Broncos and the team that eliminated them from last years playoffs, the Super Bowl champions Baltimore Ravens. Stay tuned for my picks for the Sunday and Monday night games.
I think this will be a very competitive and exciting opening day game. The Broncos will definitely miss the suspended Von Miller and injured Champ Bailey on defense. The Ravens are also experiencing change on defense as well, they have gotten younger and faster, but unproven at the same time. The pass rush should be fine with the addition of Elvis Dumervil to Raven stalwarts Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata but their backend concerns me just a little in this matchup. Going forward as the defense begins to gel and get used to playing with each other this Raven defense will be very good, but I feel that Peyton Manning and his plethora of weapons will prove too much for Baltimore to overcome on opening night. It will be interesting to see how Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco responds to the huge contract he received this offseason in addition to the loss of his safety blanket Anquan Boldin (traded to 49ers) and up and coming tight end Dennis Pitta (injury), as he has no proven receiving threat after Torrey Smith.
My prediction: Baltimore 24 @ Denver 30
